Silent/Not Silent

Silence is piercing and shrill
It is not silence
It is a wordless reminder
That you are alone

It speaks
It slithers
It wraps a coil of distortion
Around your throat

And I never knew you
Until I knew myself
And I regret the electricity
That keeps us alive
Wanting nothing else

Green bicycle
Tires screaming dead

I left you for dead
Unless that was my body

I lost it

And when I speak into my head
I leave your ear on the phone
Silence so loud
We already know

We know
We know
We know
